Seniors
Northwest Independence Senior Program
NorthWest CDC provides hot meals, exercise, line dancing, preventive health screening, home repair, financial services information, tax preparation, as well as cultural and educational programs for senior citizens in western Independence.
This winter, the NorthWest Communities Development Corporation is taking the first steps toward national accreditation of our Senior Program.

The accreditation process will help us to improve the quality of our programming, by comparing our program with national standards. Also, the accreditation process provides us with a way to build broader community and funding support around a vision of services for seniors in western Independence.
Working with the National Institute for Senior Centers (a unit of the National Council on Aging), we plan to conduct a self-assessment through the months of January, February and March on nine standards. These are:
Standard 1: Purpose
Standard 2: Community
Standard 3: Governance
Standard 4: Administration
Standard 5: Program Planning
Standard 6: Evaluation
Standard 7: Fiscal Management
Standard 8: Records & Reports
Standard 9: Facility
This accreditation process will be central to strengthening services for senior citizens in western Independence. If you are interested in joining us in this accreditation process, please contact Fran Daniel at the Fairmount Community Center: 816-254-8334, or Warren Adams-Leavitt at NorthWest CDC Administrative Offices: 816-252-5094.
